I have found this software very good on recovering pictures -> http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/

SanDisk also has it's own program called RescuePRO. It is included with some memory card packages for free.

I have used both softwares and they performed ok. I just like the PhotoRescue more.

When I tried to recover a picture I erased that was taken with the S2 IS I had no luck. It did such a good job that it couldn't be recovered with software and I tried two different ones.

The reason why people usually can't recover deleted pictures, is that they have taken more pictures after deleting. Cameras write files on memory cards starting from 'beginning'. If you delete shots, it writes them over when you take more pictures... sort of fills the gaps.

I just checked out http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/ and I guess my sd card has retrievable images, but @ 30 $US it seems a bit steep.

Anyone know if there are there less expensive options???

Sorry, but I don't understand your reasoning. Thirty bucks for getting cardful of pictures back from beyond and you think it's expensive? Then your pictures weren't worth the time used on taking them from the beginning...
