Rotate pictures
I use ACDSee to view and manage pictures. Also I rotate the ones shoot vertically with ACDSee.
Does this have any noticeable effect in the quality of the picture? |

I have to rotate basically 99% of my shots, since I mostly shoot sideways and I find it the easiest to rotate them when I plug my cammy to the pc and I am taken to that window were it asks me what I want to do with the pics and which ones I want to DL to the pc. There is a rotating feature there that takes like 3-5 seconds to rotate 300-400 pics. I know programs take minutes, so I just do it then. Give it a try.

Gonja has a good idea, gotta try that! I use FastStone Image Viewer for that kind of thing, and it does take a while. As long as you don't rotate with Windows Pic & Fax you should be ok...

I've also used ACDSee to rotate in batch and I've never noticed a degradation of the picture because of it. I don't believe any program should try to recompress it -- as far as I know the rotate function is just a re-orientation of its pixels.
A good test would be to check the before/after File sizes, right? If it tweaked the compression that should change, I believe... |

Thanks for the advices.
As FarBeyondDriven says, teorically is just a matter of pixels re-organitation. But with ACDSee the filesize changes a little (from 1,777,853 bytes to 1,774,162 bytes, for example) I tried JPEG Loseless Rotator and surprisingly the filesize of the example image changes to 1.599.168 bytes (working always with an original copy) I made a final test, using Photoshop 6. I rotated and Save as, selecting the best quality (12). No changes in the filesize, but not the easiest way I must try that windows wizard |
