Canon 350D Lenses

Hello All,
I'm looking for a decent lens to replace the box standard 18-55mm EFS lens that came with my 350d, can anyone recommend a good lens that is fast at focusing and gives clear shots.
I was looking at the 50mm F/1.4 what do you think?

Many Thanks in advance

Highlander

The 50 f/1.4 is a good, fast lens...you'll be able to shoot some pretty impressive low light shots. Also check out the 85mm f/1.8, and the 135 f/2.0.

Sounds like you're not afraid to get close to your subject, so that 50mm may be right up your alley.

The 50mm f/1.8 is approximately $80 bucks and fast. It's not so long, so you might want to keep that in mind, it will make getting candids much more challenging....

You can fill the frame head to toe with a person 5ft 8in about 12ft-16ft away. At that point it's not going to be a candid for long....

how much dollars do ya have to spend?...lets start there

all the lenses listed above are excellent
but ther all primary lenses an you wanted
to replace the kit lens which is zoom...

if its a primary you want and its mostly fer candids
then go with the 85 1.8, it'l drain yer wallet of about $350 or so...
its fast focusing, i use it on my Rebel, day and night
as fer the clear shots, thats 75% up to you and yer technique
but if ya use it right it will produce very sharp images...
some say it shuld be an L lens....

but whats yer price range?.... and zoom or primary?

Yes,

Lets start with a price range. There's VERY acceptable alternatives to L lens so don't get caught up in marketing hype. The 85mm 1.8 is a NICE piece of glass and I suggest everyone get one just to have it. Everyone should have a good prime piece of glass.

I was looking to spend up to £350 on a lens I have a 50-500mm sigma and a 75-300mm canon IS, I was looking to buy something that willl give me sharp portrait / wide angle images images. Lenses in the L class for canon are expensive here in the UK, so Im looking for something midrange.

Thanks in advance

I have a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and it takes amazing photos. I use it for all my client photography as well as candids. It's the top line Tamron lens.

Got that one too--on Satan man's recommendation (Thanks dude!)

It's a wonderful piece of glass. Take a look at it--it'll give you a bit of range, and it's good in close too.

Great for candids...and I've also used it in professional situations.
