It is my fault and I am contemplating resigning from the board because of it.

One of my biggest rules is not to permit political discussions at a photography specific board.

We are above all this crap, or so I thought.

I made a stupid remark ( second post) in this thread and I am guilty.
To tell you the gods honest truth, I thought nothing of Vitahappys post at the time because all this racial crap means nothing to me.

I have been living the " other side of the tracks " for the last 3 years can personally relate to the struggles " the other side" lives thru on a day to day basis.

I even have a pureto rican girlfriend who was and still is my visiting nurse who i happened to fall in love with..lol ( i am so white, i glow in the dark)

I go to HER neighborhood and I am the gringo, the outsider and i know personally whats its like to be the person that does not fit into a demographic group.

I always set out to have this board be a global community of people that share a common love of this hobby and hoped that stuff like this would never need to be addressed or even discussed.

I hate discussing politics and racial stuff because i truly feel it should not be a factor in anything.

we are all different, have different ethnic backgrounds and it dont mean shit.

some of us are really upset and rightfully so...enuff for one of us to do something which i consider over reaction.

OK..perhaps this thread was ok because it seems some stuff was said that needed to be worked out and i see that some of the stuff has been worked out between the parties involved.

WE CAN work it out because we are a group, a community of people with a common link, a bond between us.

This thread and this situation is very painful to me as it seems i am a perpertrator also, but like i said, i dont even think along those lines and had i done so, perhaps i might have deleted this from the get go,

some of the stuff said here was a little incredulous and some of it was taken out of context and led to stuff being said, that allthough it was said, maybe shouldnt have been, but now that it was, maybe its a good thing.

yea, i didnt think it'd turn into such a big thing either. after reading all that, it was wrong of me to not like them just cuz they just speak spanish all the time. they're all cool peoples in their own way. in fact, one spanish guy i work with does try to learn some things here and there. when i first started working there, I wasnt so good bout working in the kitchen but he taught me even in spanish.

I couldn't get past page 2 cause I started to feel stressed about the opposition and extreme differences in opinion, and in some cases hatred.

I grew up in a place where many different cultures and races thrive. It's in the U.S. and if anything, whites are looked at as outsiders there. I've been called or referred to as chino before and honestly it has bothered me because some of those people were more foreign to this land than me. My family has been here for 4 generations. Still some people probably assume I know karate just cause I'm asian, haha.

Some people choose to describe others using physical descriptors like "he's that black dude", or "you know, the fat guy", but I try not to do that.

My feeling is we are all people and we have a choice whether to acclimate to our surroundings or not. Some groups of people feel more comfortable amongst themselves, speaking their native language. Most foreigners I know can speak several languages. My wife is from Iran and my last gf was from Afghanistan. I had a girlfriend from Turkey and one from Mexico. I love all cultures and like to learn about all of them.

I have been subjected to stereotypes and shit in my life so I know how it feels to feel out of place and lost. I try to judge people on how hard they work and how they treat others. At that point it doesn't matter what race or religion you are. You can be a dick in any race or social status.

But Vita, yes it does suck to have someone talk about you in their own language or any language for that matter. That does piss me off too.

This country is only as great as the people in it. To me that means respect, tolerance, acceptance, compassion and understanding.

Let's segregate ourselves from the murderers, rapists and thieves among us. Not from those with differences in culture, opinion and lifestyle.
