Is it better to sharpen pics before or after compressing for the Web?
Is it better to sharpen pics with Photoshop Unsharp Mask before or after the pic is reduced to make it small enough to post on the web?
I've been using unsharp mask before reducing the image size and somehow my pics (the very few I've posted) don't seem as sharp as some other peoples pics. I know that half the time conditions are really tough and I'm holding a beer in one hand and the camera in the other and not being steady, or not giving the camera enough time to focus...etc.... but I want to make sure I'm not throwing away quality by sharpening at the wrong time. thanks!! |

i dont know if it's better but i usually edit what i need to do then resize. i still need to know how to use the unsharp mask better.

I've always sharpened first and then resized. Resizing is always the last thing I do prior to saving them for the web.

i wuld say to crop the pic ta get rid of any shit
around the subjects and to frame the shot... then re-size to the final posting size... then do any editing, sharpening, etc, always best to edit the final size cuz other sizes will look different. then; save for web/60-65% quality/jpeg maximum |
