Video Compression Software

Okay I got a host for my videos but they are HUGE files. The last time my videos were posted some guy compressed them for me and then posted them. Do you guys know of any good programs to compress my video files ?

Well, I use a mac for my video stuff so I'm probably no help. I use either Cleaner or Final Cut Pro for compression. Is your footage on MiniDV?

greatphotos - yes, mine are on MiniDV. A 5 minute file of mine is like almost 600mb. I need to get them WAY smaller. How much can you compress your files ? How long does it take ? I was thinking about getting the software that Adobe has for video editing but it is like $400. how much did you pay for your software ?

a great free program is tsunami mpeg encoder (TMPGEnc). use the divx or xvid codec, set the bitrate to about 2000 kbs. it also has a good deinterlacing filter

Hey ISeaU2, looks like you got a good recommendation but I thought I'd respond to your question out of courtesy. I think a 30 sec to 1 min clip compresses to something like 3-6mb, that's at 320x240 dimension, 15 fps, better quality. Final cut pro is something like $999, but now they have final cut express, which is only available for the mac so that won't help. Here is the other software I use (but I use the mac version)
