I'm posting this interview with Alex Majoli because it shows that the best photos are not always taken with expensive equipment. He uses mostly digital compacts. It's an interesting, inspiring interview. Enjoy.

"olympus has a beautiful 'point and shoot' camera series."

Dopa,

Thanks for posting.

It is interesting how he does so well with simple cameras.

It really shows how sometimes those small point and shoots can be descrete. In some cases a giant slr with giant lens gets so much attention that the people your shooting are no longer being candid or jump out of the way...etc. Or in his wartime shooting, who knows what the extra attention of an slr would bring.

Another interesting thing was that he used two cameras at once to take bursts of shots. I've never heard of anyone doing that. Usually people have more than one camera to accomodate more than one lens.

In a way what he does is very similar to candids that people do on this board. (candids with different subjects of course)

I love the clarity of the my dslr but the internal post processing on the photos my point and shoots produce is awesome.
The photos from the p and s are so much warmer in color...

Before DP wrote his essay on manual pre-focus my candid "keeper" ratio on my G5 was less than 10%... after I read the essay, it's easily over 90%...
It's almost impossible to miss the shot...
