I got enough money to buy DSLR tomorrow, but which lens?
Info you need is - I have enough to buy the 30D but then no lens, so I will buy the 350D with a lens.:D
I did read the advice on the board (Thanx).

50/1.8 & 85/1.8
Get 350D kit that includes the 18-55/3.5-5.6
so you have the wide end covered for landscapes and group shots
the f1.8 primes will allow you to get high quality shots
and in low light
avoid the false promise of a do everything superzoom
which will do some nice things but only when the planets align
the rest of the time the results are ho hum

if i had to do it again, i would go with the 50mm/1.8 like DP says, but i think i would go with the 70-200mm L f/4.0 as my other lens. of course, if i had the cash, the 70-200mm L f/2.8 with or without IS would be better, but the f/4.0 is supposed to be pretty good. consider the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX lens. it has good reviews at a cheaper price than the canon L lenses.

The Sigma is nice, for the price you can't go wrong.
But..... it's not at the same level of the Canon 'L'.
My Canon 400mm is better than my Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 at 70mm.

All didn't go well. I bought the 30D with 18-55 lens.
But I have a buyer for my S2 and with that money I will buy 85/1.8 lens.
Bread and water for the rest of the month...LOL

As I told you already in private - my opinion is that lenses are even more important that the bodies.
If you hit the jackpot this one would be my recommendation: EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=150&modelid=7469)
