Just wondering what everyone uses, and why.
I use JPEG for 80% of my shots.

RAW is basically just for DSLRs. It's "what you see is what you get". The camera does very little processing of the shot. It is a TREMENDOUS pain in the ass to post process...yet you're able to pretty much do what you like with the photo.
I go back and forth...some days I'll shoot RAW, but most of the time JPG.

haha Archman pretty much says it. I know the Canon G6 can shoot RAW, but most P&S cams can't. And yes Archman - it is a terrible pain processing RAW.

If you don't shoot raw, you should. Take a dark overexposed shot and you can fix it. You can also fix the color temperature which is more than just tweaking the color. Fixxing a jpeg is like painting over a a bad paint job and Raw is choosing the right paint job the first time.

I shoot compressed raw + Basic jpeg! I really like to have a preview image, and use this to view my shots and see which to keep or post etc (which is what the basic jpeg is fine for). Then if the shot is good, i will use the raw file to adjust white balance, exposure, sharpening etc! Raw is really great, especially if you are unsure of how accurate your lcd is for exposure or white balance.
With the d2h raw file size is perfect! 4mb and its very quick to load up on my pc, it took ages with the 6+mb d70 raw files. If I had a super fast pc that could handle raw, I would probably shoot raw only, but its too much hassle previewing a thousand raw files after a days shooting.

I agree that the flexibility of RAW is outstanding when it comes to perfecting your shots, but it's too much of a pain for 80% of my work.

only jpeg here
maybe when 8gb cards are $50 ill consider the advantages of raw
until then im just gonna suffer having to get the exposure and white balance right
or toss the shot
I shoot raw all the time.

I only shoot in JPG with my nikon D70. Raw has its advantages, but it slows down the camera enough that I would end up missing shots, and my thought is that a jpg shot is better than a missed raw shot.
Plus I don't even have time to edit my jpg shots as it is and doing all the extra work with raw for a very small gain for me isn't worth it. You can probably save more shots in RAW but if the shot is really far off with exposure...etc than you can't save them all.
Plus I hear that you run into more compatability problems since every camera has its own version of RAW files wherease jpgs work with any program and all cameras produce jpg so you will never be in a position where you have old files that a new program can't work with.

i am pretty sure i got the RAW format in my cam but like some others, i am too lazy to fix it all in post. i like doin jpg since it's simple and if i need to still work on it, it'll be ok unless i really fucked up the shot first time around.

I have found that jpeg is suitable for the majority of my shots. A particular good, memorable or difficult exposure scene will generally encourage me to knock a few raw shots off just in case.
The biggest problem with RAW is the time it takes to write away on my 300D. There's nothing worse than having the camera buffer full just when you want to take a shot...
Hard drive real estate is the only other issue I have with RAW shots - they take up so much space! (I've had my 300D for over 2 years now and have amassed 90+gig of images. I really should find the time to cull...)
Microsoft's new raw handling ability makes sorting so much easier, and the advent of portable HD card readers (Mine is 80gig) mean memory cards filling up isn't an issue any more.
