I discovered this link a while ago. I have also been wondering where some of the best posters from TCB and the Yahoo! groups have been disappearing to. :) Here is a sample of my work.

with the 717? they look a little grainy
looks as though you used the digital
zoom or you cropped into them alot
or both. what I'm saying is I like the
shotz but the are a bit grainy for a 717.

I was using the Sony x1.7 telephoto lens (VCL-HGD1758). I turn digital zoom off on my cameras. I do employ the telephoto lens though. I pick a spot on the beach, plant my cooler next to my beach chair, drink plenty of "liquids" and snap away.

I always envy series shooters. I'm too chicken to photograph any one subject more than once or twice and hope for the best.

It is not that hard. Just be patient. Don't stare. Be obviously interested in something else other than your true interest. Employ the burst mode when necessary. *LOL* Where I usually post, almost all of the members are "series" shooters. I always feel that I don't have enough pics to be called a series shooter since most of the regulars post series of 20 or more pics religiously. Mine are usually ten or less.
